A Blog to Watch 2025 - The Flyback: Watch Releases

Welcome, welcome, welcome! It’s another edition of the biweekly horological extravaganza that is The Flyback! And what a roundup we’ve got for you this time. A Backes and Strauss unapologetically covered in a rainbow of gems, two Studio Underd0gs inspired by food, a Swatch inspired by a very specific kind of plant, and some stuff from Zenith and Breguet. Let’s not tarry too much, then. Enjoy this quintet of new watches and let us know in the comments what other recent releases caught your eye!
Backes and Strauss Ballerina Color Cascade
One of my favorite tags we use at ABTW is “Watches Dripping with Diamonds.” It’s our catchall for any watch that’s overloaded with gemstones (diamonds or otherwise), and the watches are always wild because there’s no such thing as restraint when you’re putting carats and carats of gems on a watch. The more, the better. This blinged-out Backes & Strauss masterpiece has 1,301 diamonds and multicolored sapphires totaling 18.95 carats. The watch is an expansion of the existing Ballerina series, which is all jewel-encrusted (pink, red, and blue), but this one goes well beyond those monotone models. The watch measures 33mm with a handwound movement, and from the renders, it may actually be legible. Say it with me, now: Cuh-loor Cass-cahhhd. Priced at CHF 138,480. More at Backes and Strauss.
